KATHMANDU: Nepal has been elected chair of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Committee on Trade and Environment (CTE), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Ram Prasad Subedi, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations in Geneva, was unanimously elected for a one-year term at a General Council meeting in Geneva on 11 March 2026.
The CTE is a standing forum for dialogue among WTO members on the impact of trade policies on the environment and the impact of environmental policies on trade. It also facilitates discussions to promote environmentally sustainable trade and climate-related trade measures.
The leadership role comes at a crucial time, as Nepal is preparing to graduate from Least Developed Country (LDC) status and is working closely with all WTO members to further integrate its trade into global markets.
