KATHMANDU: Mahindra & Mahindra on Thursday launched the Bolero MaXX Pik-Up in Nepal. The company and its local distributor said it is the country’s first pick-up with a 2-tonne payload capacity.

The vehicle was unveiled at Mahindra’s showroom in Gairidhara, Kathmandu, in an event led by Agni Incorporated of the Agni Group, Mahindra’s official distributor for pick-up and commercial utility vehicles in Nepal. Simultaneous launches were held in Birgunj, Butwal and Janakpur, and the company plans to roll out the model soon in other commercial centres, including Bhairahawa, Chitwan, Hetauda, Biratnagar, Damak, Gaighat, Pokhara, Dhangadhi, Dang, Nepalgunj, Surkhet and Birtamod.

Mahindra said the Bolero MaXX Pik-Up will be offered in two heavy-duty variants in Nepal: the HD 1.7 LX and the HD 2.0L SXi. The HD 1.7 LX carries a special launching price of Rs 2,995,000, while the HD 2.0L SXi starts at Rs 3,295,000. Both variants will be sold through Agni Group dealerships.

The company said the new model sets a benchmark for payload capacity, fuel efficiency, safety and driving comfort in the sub-2 tonne commercial vehicle segment. Key specifications highlighted include payload options from 1.7 to 2 tonnes, a cargo bed length of up to 3,050 mm, and Mahindra’s m2Di engine available in diesel and CNG options. Mahindra also noted a wider wheel track for improved stability, a single-piece Body Side Outer for added rigidity, and the use of high-strength low-alloy parts for durability.

The HD 2.0L variant was called a segment leader with a first-in-segment cargo bed length of 3,050 mm and a 2-tonne payload, aimed at demanding applications such as construction, agriculture and fisheries. The HD 1.7 variant was said to be suited to intercity transport of goods such as fruit and vegetables, offering a 1.7-tonne payload and a 2,765 mm cargo length option.

Speaking at the launch, Sachin Arolkar, Head of International Operations, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “The Bolero MaXX has earned a reputation for being a highly capable, dependable, safe, efficient and versatile pickup. These attributes, combined with its low cost of operations, have made it a firm favourite with drivers and fleet operators alike. Designed for safety and comfort as much as utility, the Bolero MaXX Pik-Up has disrupted the small commercial vehicle segment. We believe this is the perfect SCV for Nepal’s evolving logistics needs, and we are confident that its launch will consolidate our leadership position in the market.”

Cabinet Shrestha, Chairman of the Agni Group, said, “We are delighted to be bringing the Bolero MaXX Pik-Up to Nepal. It is a pickup that has proven to be overwhelmingly popular in India, and for good reason. Its ruggedness and versatility will be even more at home on Nepal’s roads, and we are confident it will redefine the SCV space in the country.”

Mahindra said the Bolero MaXX Pik-Up is built on an all-new platform while retaining the Bolero’s core attributes of robustness, low maintenance cost and high resale value. The company highlighted class-leading tyres — 7R16 on the HD 2.0L and 7R15 on the HD 1.7 — to enhance stability and withstand wear under heavy loads.

Agni Incorporated is the authorised distributor of Mahindra automobiles and tractors in Nepal. Mahindra Group, founded in 1945, is a multinational conglomerate with operations in more than 100 countries and a leading presence in farm equipment, utility vehicles and other sectors.
