RANJHA, BANKE: Nepalgunj Customs Office has collected only about 52% of its target revenue in the first eight months of current fiscal year 2025/26, Janardan Poudel, chief of Nepalgunj Customs Office, said.

Out of the annual target of Rs 24.54 billion for current fiscal year, only Rs 12.75 billion, or 51.97%, has been collected in the eight months to mid-Falgun, he said.

In the months of Shrawan, Bhadra, Asoj, Kartik, Mangsir, Poush and Magh of current fiscal year, only 74%, 69%, 87%, 72%, 83%, 83% and 88% of the monthly targets were collected, respectively.

In the last fiscal year, 2024/25, Nepalgunj Customs collected 74.64% of the target revenue, while in 2023/24 it collected 63.35%.

Poudel said there is a challenge in collecting the remaining 48% of the revenue in the next four months to meet the annual target. The Customs Office has so far failed to collect revenue in line with the monthly targets.

Although it was expected that customs revenue would increase because of a rise in imports and exports after the integrated check-post at Jamunahana on Nepal–India border became operational, the target has not been met.
