BHAKTAPUR: National Examinations Board (NEB) today said it has completed preparations for this year’s Secondary Education Examination (SEE), which will be held from April 2 to 12. The board said the examination will begin simultaneously at 8:00 am on April 2 across all centres.

Examination Controller for Grade 10 Tukaraj Adhikari said 512,421 students are registered to sit the SEE. Of these, 441,566 are regular candidates and 70,855 are appearing under the grade improvement category. Female candidates outnumber male candidates, with 257,613 female students, 254,801 male students and seven others registered. Adhikari also noted that 23 examinees will take the test from a single examination centre in Japan.

The NEB has designated 1,966 examination centres nationwide and students from 11,379 schools will participate. Provincial totals announced by the board show the highest number of candidates in Bagmati Province, with 109,513 students, and the lowest in Karnali Province, with 39,769. Other provincial figures are Koshi 82,487; Madhesh 90,243; Gandaki 43,972; Lumbini 91,802; and Sudurpashchim 54,635.

The board set out the timetable for compulsory and elective subjects: April 2 — English (compulsory); April 3 — Nepali (compulsory); April 5 — Mathematics (compulsory); April 6 — Science and Technology; April 7 — Social Studies; April 8 — Optional First subjects; April 9 — Optional Second subjects; and April 10–12 — remaining technical stream subjects.

The NEB has banned collective monitoring of the examinations after complaints that representatives of various organisations entering halls under the pretext of monitoring disturbed candidates. Authorised representatives of the District Examination Coordination Committee, formed under the coordination of the Chief District Officer in each district, will be allowed to monitor only from outside examination centres.

Journalists have been instructed that they may film or photograph only the exterior of examination centres. Only the superintendent and the representatives assigned for the day will be permitted to monitor inside examination halls. The NEB urged the public not to distract students by filming inside halls or posting such footage on social media.

Question papers printed by Janak Education Materials Centre have been transported to all districts with the assistance of security agencies. The NEB said different question papers have been printed for each of the seven provinces for the six compulsory subjects; if a paper is leaked in a province, arrangements are in place to cancel and reprint only the specific subject exam for that province.

Security deployments will be determined by District Examination Committees according to need. The NEB said each centre will have 15 police personnel, one superintendent, one assistant superintendent, one invigilator for every 20 examinees, one office assistant for every 100 examinees, and two additional staff members, with further personnel assigned as required.
