MYAGDI: Tourism entrepreneurs in Pokhara have started rafting on the Kaligandaki River, targeting domestic tourists. The activity was launched on the Farse–Nayapul section, running from Farse in Jaljala Rural Municipality, Parbat, to Nayapul in Kushma Municipality, and aims to extend the stay of visitors to Pokhara.
The launch was organised by the Pokhara Visit Year Implementation Committee. A team of tourism entrepreneurs, people’s representatives, Pokhara Metropolitan City representatives, industrialists, businesspersons and mediapersons took part in the inaugural run.
Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai, coordinator of the Pokhara Visit Year Implementation Committee, said that 38 people participated in the rafting.
Tourists can reach the Farse–Nayapul section in two hours by car from Pokhara. It takes one hour and 30 minutes to raft from Farse to Nayapul, a distance of about 10 kilometres. Visitors can also combine the trip with visits to Kushma, Baglung, Beni and Galeshwor.
Targeting the Pokhara Visit Year, the committee had earlier promoted rafting on the Marsyangdi and Seti rivers. The months of Kartik and Chaitra in the lunar calendar are considered favourable for rafting.
