KATHMANDU: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Dipak Kumar Sah, has instructed the concerned authorities to devise and implement a comprehensive action plan to streamline, regulate and ensure safety in the country's labour and employment sector. He has also ordered the immediate implementation of 10 feasible action plans finalised to reform the sector.
Reviewing the 100-point action plan approved by the Cabinet on March 27 for governance reform, Minister Sah called for the drafting and implementation of measures to reform the country's labour sector.
Starting on Sunday, the Ministry brought into force a new scheme replacing the 'token' system, allowing labour permits to be issued on the same day that applications are submitted.
The minister asked for the development of audio-visual content based on the Pre-Departure Orientation Training (PDOT) curriculum and for its digital availability to aspiring migrant workers.
The newly appointed Minister's key instructions include enrolling all prospective migrant workers in the contributory social security scheme and ensuring strict enforcement of minimum wage standards for labourers.
He called for strengthening and organising the Shramadhan labour call centre and for conducting risk assessments in industrial establishments to promote occupational health and safety.
Minister Sah also emphasised promoting production and entrepreneurship to generate domestic employment and expanding bilateral labour agreements with five more countries.
