Remittance inflows rise 37.7 pc to Rs 1,449.65bn in eight months: NRB

KATHMANDU: Remittance inflows rose 37.7% to Rs 1,449.65 billion in the first eight months of fiscal year 2025/26.

The growth compares with 9.5% in the corresponding period of the previous year, the macroeconomic and financial situation report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Thursday said.

During mid-February to mid-March (Falgun month), remittance inflows stood at Rs 188.64 billion, up from Rs 151.19 billion in the same month a year earlier.

In US dollar terms, remittance inflows increased 31% to $10.15 billion in the review period, compared with a rise of 7.1% a year earlier.

Net secondary income (net transfer) reached Rs 1,591.66 billion in the review period, up from Rs 1,149.30 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The number of Nepali workers taking first-time approval for foreign employment stood at 273,576, while approvals for renewed entry numbered 251,985 in the review period. In the same period of the previous year, first-time approvals were 317,068 and renewals were 217,403.
