Current account surplus widens to Rs 552.85bn in eight months: NRB

KATHMANDU: The current account remained at a surplus of Rs 552.85 billion in the eight months of fiscal year 2025/26.

Such surplus was Rs 197.03 billion in the same period of the previous year, the macroeconomic and financial situation report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Thursday showed.

In US dollar terms, the current account registered a surplus of $3.88 billion in the review period, compared to a surplus of $1.46 billion in the same period of the previous year.

Net capital transfer amounted to Rs 12.59 billion in the review period. In the same period of the previous year, such a transfer amounted to Rs 6.41 billion. Similarly, Rs 10.84 billion in foreign direct investment (equity only) was received during the review period. In the same period of the previous year, foreign direct investment inflows (equity only) amounted to Rs 8.47 billion.

The balance of payments (BOP) remained at a surplus of Rs 658.35 billion in the review period. Such surplus was Rs 310.37 billion in the previous year. In US dollar terms, the BOP remained in a surplus of $4.61 billion in the review period, compared to a surplus of $2.29 billion in the same period of the previous year.
