KATHMANDU: A delegation from American Chamber of Commerce in Nepal (AmCham Nepal) met Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal on Friday.
The meeting confirmed AmCham Nepal’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s economic transformation through deeper Nepal-US commercial engagement.
AmCham Nepal presented itself as a strategic partner to the Government of Nepal, highlighting the role of American businesses in driving investment, innovation and sustainable growth. The discussion focused on strengthening economic diplomacy and creating a more conducive environment for bilateral trade and investment.
On the occasion, Minister Khanal asked AmCham Nepal to develop a comprehensive framework that outlines key challenges, opportunities and actionable milestones to advance Nepal-US economic cooperation. He also expressed interest in a follow-up engagement after his upcoming visit to the United States to explore deeper collaboration and strategic alignment.
Job creation emerged as a central theme of the discussion, with both sides stressing the private sector’s role in contributing to Nepal’s national target of large-scale employment generation. AmCham Nepal said it would facilitate investment and support initiatives that generate meaningful economic impact.
AmCham Nepal formally requested representation on relevant economic and policy platforms to ensure structured private sector participation in matters related to Nepal-US bilateral interests. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said it is committed to promoting ‘Brand Nepal’ globally and welcomed AmCham Nepal’s support through its international network.
Both sides underlined the importance of a predictable policy environment, timely decision-making and a level playing field for American companies operating in Nepal as critical to enhancing investor confidence and attracting foreign direct investment. Officials expressed optimism about a constructive, forward-looking partnership aligned with the government’s reform agenda.
Participants from AmCham Nepal included Chairperson Kailash Bijayananda, Immediate Past President Nirmal Kajee Shrestha, Founding Chair Ajit Bikram Shah, Treasurer Sneh Rajbhandari, Manish Thapa, Sachin Karanjit and Executive Director Amir R Thapa.
AmCham Nepal is an independent, non-profit business association dedicated to promoting trade, investment and economic cooperation between Nepal and the United States. It serves as a platform for American and Nepali businesses to engage in policy advocacy, networking and knowledge exchange and represents the US Chamber of Commerce network in efforts to strengthen bilateral commercial ties.
