KATHMANDU: National Assembly members urged the new government to prioritise good governance, transparency and corruption control.

In today’s sitting of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament, members raised a range of issues, including the price hike of daily essentials and problems facing marginalised communities because of the ongoing conflict in Middle East countries.

Uday Bahadur Bohara urged the government to rescue Nepalis stranded in the Middle East. Jayanti Devi Rai, Mohammad Khalid, Rajendra Laxmi Gaire and Sonam Gelzen Sherpa drew attention to the conflict’s global impact, including consequences for Nepal.

Gita Devkota and Chandra Bahadur KC called for the implementation of farmer‑friendly policies and said economic development should be the incumbent government’s main agenda. Khamma Bahadur Khati said the government should carry out activities with national welfare at the centre, rising above partisan interests.

Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar demanded a fair investigation into the case of Inisha BK of Surkhet, while Suresh Kumar Ale Magar argued that student organisations should not be banned. Madan Kumari Shah and Narayan Dutta Mishra also expressed views on various contemporary topics during the session.
