Govt declares weekly holiday on Saturdays, Sundays for employees from April 6

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to give government employees a weekly holiday on Saturdays and Sundays, effective from April 6.

A cabinet meeting today took the decision. According to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM), the change will be implemented in all government offices and educational institutions from April 6.

The meeting also approved $90 million concessional loan from the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank for the Digital Nepal Transformation project. Minister for Education, Science and Technology and government spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel said the cabinet accepted a further $95 million concessional loan from the World Bank for the Sustainable and Inclusive Finance Project.

The cabinet granted permission to conduct an organisation and management (O&M) survey of all ministries, secretariats, commissions and their subordinate bodies.

It approved the resignation tendered by the executive chairperson of Rastriya Samachar Samiti, Dharmendra Jha, and decided to make arrangements to convert diesel and petrol vehicles to electric vehicles.

The government also decided that the coming academic session will begin from April 28 (Baishakh 15).
