BIRATNAGAR: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal said the private sector plays a significant role in the country’s overall development and in creating jobs.

Speaking at the inauguration of the eighth provincial assembly and election programme 2082 of FNCCI Koshi Province in Biratnagar, Dhakal emphasised that economic prosperity requires maximising local resources in agriculture, tourism, industry and other natural‑resource sectors, with government support.

He said the current government’s view of the private sector, which has created 86% of the country’s jobs, has changed.

Taranath Niraula, vice chair of Koshi Province Planning Commission, urged the introduction of laws friendly to the private sector to make the economy more dynamic. Likewise, Rajendra Bahadur Raut, president of FNCCI Koshi Province, called on industrialists and entrepreneurs to invest in the province, citing opportunities in agriculture, hydropower and tourism, and stressed the need to promote domestic production.

Similarly, FNCCI Senior Vice President Anjan Shrestha, FNCCI Lumbini Province President Krishna Prasad Sharma, Vice President Hem Raj Dhakal and others said a professional government environment would make it easier to attract foreign and domestic investment.

An election for FNCCI Koshi Province is being held today, with a contest between the incumbent, Rajendra Bahadur Raut, and Naveen Rijal.
