SKorea's employment rises 206,000 on year in March

SEOUL: South Korea's employment rose by more than 200,000 for a second consecutive month as jobs for older workers continued to increase, government data showed on Wednesday.

The number of employed people aged 15 and over increased by 206,000, or 0.7%, year-on-year to 28,795,000 in March, after a gain of 234,000 in the previous month, the Ministry of Data and Statistics said.

Employment has risen for 15 straight months since January last year.

Overall, job growth was driven by older workers. Employment for those aged 60 and over expanded by 242,000 year-on-year in March, while jobs for people in their 30s and 50s rose by 112,000 and 5,000, respectively.

Employment among those in their 20s and 40s fell by 167,000 and 5,000, respectively, in the month cited.
