KATHMANDU: Office-bearers appointed to government agencies before March 26, 2026, have been relieved of their posts following the issuance of the 'Ordinance on Special Provisions related to the Termination of Public Office-Bearers, 2083'.

President Ramchandra Paudel issued the ordinance on Saturday on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs published the ordinance today, stating that those office-bearers will be relieved of their jobs automatically after the commencement of the ordinance, regardless of the conditions, facilities and terms determined at the time of their appointment.

The government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said the move aims to strengthen the administration and give new momentum to state bodies. A total of 1,594 officials who received political appointments under various acts and structures will be relieved of their posts.

Clause 1 (2) of the ordinance states that the ordinance is brought into implementation. Clause 2 (2) provides that the secretary of the concerned ministry or a designated official will issue a notice about the termination of political appointees.
