KATHMANDU: Nepalese Young Entrepreneurs' Forum (NYEF) said the NYEF Startup Awards 5.0 drew an overwhelming response, receiving more than 150 applications from early-stage ventures across Nepal.

The submissions came from 14 locations, including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Pokhara, Janakpur, Biratnagar and Dhangadhi. 60% of applicants are based in the Kathmandu Valley and 40% are from other regions.

Furthermore, NYEF reported that 78% of applicants are tech-enabled, working in sectors such as EdTech, AgTech, HealthTech, FinTech and e‑commerce. The data shows a strong early-stage trend: 94% of registered startups are between one and three years old, and 55% are only one year old.

The sector breakdown shows Information Technology at 31%, Manufacturing 19%, Education 15%, Services 11%, Trade 9%, Agriculture 7%, Healthcare 4% and Tourism 4%. NYEF said the mix reflects growing entrepreneurial activity beyond traditional industries.

Following the application period, shortlisted teams attended an orientation session on May 7, 2026. They are set to take part in an intensive bootcamp run by a panel of industry experts, investors and business leaders. Finalists will be judged on innovation, scalability, social and economic impact, team capability and business viability.

The programme’s Demo Day and Grand Finale are scheduled for May 31, 2026. Winners will receive national recognition and media exposure, mentorship from established entrepreneurs and industry leaders, networking opportunities with investors and potential partners, and cash prizes.

NYEF said the awards aim to identify and support promising early-stage startups with potential for growth, job creation and contribution to economic development. The forum, established in 2003, represents more than 1,000 young entrepreneurs across 14 chapters in Nepal and focuses on idea exchange, education, training and advocacy for the country’s youth.
