KATHMANDU: Nepal has been unanimously elected Vice President of the 79th World Health Assembly, the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The election took place during the opening session of the assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, according to Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari, Deputy Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population. He said Health Minister Nisha Mehata is scheduled to address the assembly later today on Nepal’s behalf.
A Nepali delegation led by Minister Mehata departed Kathmandu for Geneva on Sunday to take part in the global health gathering. The 79th World Health Assembly runs from May 18 to 23.
