KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Chief Justice Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma assumed office today.
Dr Sharma took the oath of office as the 33rd Chief Justice of Nepal before President Ramchandra Paudel earlier in the day. His appointment was approved by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee, which cleared his recommendation the same day.
The Constitutional Council had recommended Dr Sharma as the next Chief Justice prior to the committee’s endorsement. He succeeds the outgoing Chief Justice and will head the Supreme Court of Nepal.
Officials said administrative handover procedures were completed following the swearing-in ceremony. Further announcements about Dr Sharma’s priorities and the court’s immediate agenda are expected in the coming days.
