Wholesale price of fruits and vegetables set for today

KATHMANDU: Kalimati Fruits and Vegetable Market Development Board on Wednesday released its daily wholesale price bulletin, setting maximum wholesale rates for a wide range of agricultural commodities.

Among staple items, the board fixed the maximum wholesale price for large Nepali tomatoes at Rs 60 per kg and for large Indian tomatoes at Rs 70 per kg. Small local tomatoes carry a ceiling of Rs 35 per kg. Red long potatoes are capped at Rs 32 per kg, while Indian dry onions are listed at up to Rs 38 per kg.

Common seasonal vegetables were also included in the bulletin. Local cauliflower is set at a maximum of Rs 50 per kg, local cabbage at Rs 35 per kg and local carrots at Rs 70 per kg. Premium vegetables show higher rates, with button mushrooms at Rs 450 per kg, king oyster mushrooms at Rs 320 per kg and asparagus at Rs 330 per kg.

In the fruit category, Fuji apples have a maximum wholesale price of Rs 300 per kg. Pomegranates are among the most expensive fruits on the list at Rs 450 per kg, while green watermelons are set at Rs 40 per kg. Nepali bananas are priced up to Rs 200 per kg.

The bulletin also lists spices, roots, leafy greens and fresh fish. Dry Chinese garlic reaches a maximum of Rs 180 per kg and local ginger is set at Rs 140 per kg. Fresh Rahu fish is listed at Rs 340 per kg and Bachuwa fish at Rs 300 per kg.

The maximum wholesale rates are intended to serve as a reference for traders, retailers and consumers conducting business at the Kalimati market in Kathmandu.
