Rain likely in hills and mountains, heat in Tarai: MFD

KATHMANDU: Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has issued a weather forecast calling for cloudy skies and rainfall in several hilly and mountainous parts of the country today, while hot conditions are expected across parts of the Tarai.

The MFD said mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces will be generally cloudy, with a few places likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning and, at higher elevations, snowfall. A few other mountainous and hilly locations are also expected to see light to moderate precipitation.

Hilly districts in Madhesh, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces are forecast to be partly cloudy. Most Tarai areas are expected to remain mainly fair, though hot weather is likely in parts of the Tarai within Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim.

For tonight, the division predicts generally cloudy conditions in the mountainous areas of Koshi, partly cloudy skies in hilly regions, and mainly fair weather across the Tarai. Light rainfall or snowfall with thunder and lightning is possible at a few places in Koshi Province, in the mountainous and hilly areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and in the mountainous parts of Karnali Province, the MFD added.
