TULSIPUR, DANG: Lumbini Province government on Monday unveiled its budget for the 2026/27 fiscal year, placing particular emphasis on the management and development of the province’s permanent capital in Dang and on upgrades to essential infrastructure and health facilities.

Provincial Minister for Economic Affairs Dhanendra Karki presented the budget and said upgrading the provincial hospital is a top priority. He said the second phase of infrastructure development in Rapti Valley (Deukhuri), aimed at improving management of the federal capital, is expected to be completed within the next year and that work on a parliamentary committee building and other government structures will be intensified.

The budget allocates funds to demarcate major roads in the provincial capital to meet planning needs and support essential services. The government also plans to introduce modern technology for waste management in coordination with Rapti Rural Municipality.

Health sector investments include Rs 40 million to upgrade Rapti Provincial Hospital to a 200‑bed facility. The package also highlights measures to strengthen irrigation systems and promote sustainable water use as part of broader efforts to manage the provincial capital and its surrounding areas.

Tourism and cultural projects received funding, with Rs 110 million set aside to develop a “paradise botanical garden” and related tourism facilities intended to spur local development. Preservation of Tharu heritage is being emphasised through the construction of a Tharu museum, for which Rs 40 million has been allocated to honour the legacy of the ancient Tharu King Dangishara.

The budget signals a focus on consolidating Dang as the province’s permanent capital through a mix of infrastructure, health, environmental and cultural investments aimed at supporting administration and local development.
