WASHINGTON DC: The Nepali Embassy in New York has urged members of the Nepali diaspora to channel investment into sectors where Nepal holds comparative advantages.
Nepal’s chargé d’affaires to the United States, Sharad Raj Aaran, called on expatriate Nepalis to mobilise capital to support prosperity at home. The discussion focused on Nepal’s prospects for prosperity, trade, investment and innovation, while noting the opportunities and challenges involved.
Aaran said the knowledge, skills and capital of Nepalis living abroad could be put to effective use for development in Nepal, and that the government has created an investment‑friendly environment for non‑resident Nepalis.
Consul‑General Laxman Khanal highlighted technology, tourism and energy as sectors likely to deliver high returns, urging Nepalis not to miss available investment opportunities.
Industrialist Lok Tiwari said Nepalis in the United States, engaged in a range of professions, should be encouraged to contribute to Nepal’s development. He added that remittances received by Nepal should be directed towards productive investments.
