KATHMANDU: eSewa is expanding access to affordable health protection through Sahara Health Insurance, offered in partnership with Shikhar Insurance Company, the digital payments firm announced on Monday.
Available entirely through the eSewa app, the plan provides combined health and accident cover of up to Rs 600,000, with premiums starting at Rs 1,399. Customers can select medical expense cover of Rs 100,000, Rs 200,000 or Rs 500,000 depending on age and needs, and receive additional accident treatment cover of up to Rs 100,000.
The policy covers hospitalisations of 24 hours or more, cashless treatment at more than 25 network hospitals, nearly 150 daycare procedures, and eligible pre- and post-hospitalisation medical expenses. The product is available to individuals aged between 5 and 65 years.
Purchases and renewals can be completed within minutes through the Insurance section of the eSewa app, with no paperwork or visits to an insurance office required. Policies are issued instantly in digital form upon successful payment using an eSewa balance.
“Unexpected health emergencies can place a significant financial burden on individuals and families,” eSewa said. “Through Sahara Health Insurance, we are working to expand access to affordable health protection by combining low premiums, a seamless digital process, and comprehensive coverage. This reflects our continued commitment to strengthening financial inclusion and improving access to insurance services for more Nepali people.”
Since its launch in September 2025, more than 10,000 customers have taken out Sahara Health Insurance, eSewa added, as it continues to broaden its portfolio of digital financial services and promote wider adoption of financial protection across Nepal.
