KATHMANDU: A total of 836 Nepali workers have been selected by Israel as caregivers in the first phase of recruitment, the Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA) of Israel announced today.

PIBA conducted a live broadcast of a lottery to choose auxiliary workers for employment as caregivers. Senior Israeli officials, Ambassador of Israel to Nepal Shmulik Arie Bass, representatives from Nepal’s Department of Foreign Employment and mediapersons joined the broadcast to observe the lottery.

A total of 1,115 candidates were listed for the lottery, of whom 784 were male and 331 female. 75% of candidates from each category were selected, resulting in 836 successful candidates for the first round.

Ambassador Bass said, “More than 2,100 additional employment opportunities in Israel’s caregiving sector are expected to open soon. Furthermore, Israel and Nepal are finalising two bilateral protocol agreements on Home-based Caregiving and Agricultural Workers, where many opportunities await Nepali workers.”

The selected candidates will proceed to the final stages of recruitment after medical examinations and criminal record verification. Those confirmed medically fit and without criminal records will travel to Israel in batches, beginning two months later.

Nepali workers recruited under the bilateral agreement will receive the same minimum salary and employment conditions as Israeli workers under Israeli law.
