KATHMANDU: Vehicular movement on several highways was suspended on Friday after monsoon‑induced disasters struck parts of the country from early morning.

According to Nepal Police, landslides, soil erosion and debris caused by torrential rain forced authorities to halt traffic on multiple routes.

The Khurkot‑Nepalthok‑Katunjebensi section of the BP Highway was closed to all vehicles from Thursday evening until Friday morning owing to flood risks, the police said.

Meanwhile, the Mechi Highway in Ilam Municipality‑9 is completely obstructed as the road remains muddy following the rain.

Likewise, Saljhandi‑Dhorpatan road section at Panini Rural Municipality‑2 in Arghakhanchi district is fully blocked after a landslip.

In Sindhupalchok district, a landslide at Jirokilo in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality‑4 obstructed traffic along the Araniko Highway, police added.

However, vehicular movement on the Kanti Highway resumed on Friday morning after debris was cleared from the Ghattepakha area in Bakaiya Rural Municipality‑11 in Makawanpur district, Nepal Police reported.
