Floods, landslides hit highways, blocking BP Highway and others

KATHMANDU: Highways in various parts of the country have been hit by floods and landslides after days of incessant rain. Some road sections are completely blocked, while others are subject to night‑time vehicle bans.

Nepal Police said that, because of the risk of flooding, all types of vehicles are banned from operating on the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway, which links Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, every day from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am until further notice. The section remains open from 4:00 am to 6:00 pm.

All types of vehicles are also prohibited from operating on the Kanti Highway from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am until further notice.

Meanwhile, traffic has been halted on the Mechi Highway at Rajduwali, Ilam Municipality‑9, after the road became muddy.

Saljhundi-Dhorpatan road section has been completely blocked after boulders fell in Dhungekhola, Panini Rural Municipality‑2, Arghakhanchi.

Traffic is also halted at Belbagar, Jaimini Municipality‑8, Baglung, along the Kaligandaki Corridor Highway following a landslide.

The Araniko Highway has been completely blocked after landslide debris mixed with mud fell in Jirokilo, Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4, and in the Kodari area of Ward No. 2, Sindhupalchok.

In Kavrepalanchok district, the BP Highway is completely blocked by landslides at Ghumaune, Ward No. 7; Gimdi, Ward No. 8; and Biruwadanda and Pinthali, Ward No. 9, in Roshi Rural Municipality.
