Landslides, floods block nine main highways across country
KATHMANDU: Nine main highways across Nepal have been obstructed by landslides and flooding after days of incessant rain, Nepal Police has reported.
Several road sections in Koshi and Bagmati provinces are either completely or partially impassable, police said. The Mid-Hills Highway in Bokhim, Bhojpur Municipality-5, is open to one-way traffic because of flooding.
The Mechi Highway is fully blocked by landslides at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality and at Khobare Khola in Yangwarak Rural Municipality-1, Panchthar. The Diktel–Bhojpur section of the Mid-Hills Highway in Matekhola, Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-6, has also been closed completely due to landslides.
In Bagmati Province, the BP Highway has been temporarily halted because of potential flooding, and traffic on the Kathmandu–Hetauda Kanti Highway has been suspended until further notice owing to the risk of flooding and landslides.
Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4 in Sindhupalchok, together with the Jurikhola and Arani highways in Kodari, are completely blocked by landslides. One-way traffic is being managed on the Pasang Lhamu road section at Bokrejhunda in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-6, Rasuwa.
The Prithvi Highway at Phisling in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-3, Chitwan, is fully blocked by landslides. In Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-10, Tismarkhani, Dhading, the Prithvi Highway is operating one-way, while the road at Jawangkhola is completely closed.
Authorities warned that the risk of further landslides and flooding persists while rains continue and urged the public to check the latest road conditions with relevant agencies before travelling.
