Indefinite curfews enforced in parts of Dhanusha, Siraha districts

JANAKPURDHAM: District Administration Offices in Dhanusha and Siraha have imposed an 'indefinite curfew' in sensitive areas of both districts after unrest linked to violent incidents in Kaptanganj, Sunsari district.

In Siraha, Chief District Officer Surendra Paudyal issued the curfew order under Section 6(a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, following a decision by the District Security Committee in view of the security situation and the potential for protests and disturbances. The restriction in Golbazar Municipality came into force at 2:00 pm today and will remain in place until further notice. The order covers the area extending from Kaharaha Khola in Ward No. 3 on the east of the East‑West Highway to Chaurhawa Chowk in the west, and from Sainik Chowk in Ward No. 6 in the north to the vicinity of the Rajakiya Technical Multipurpose Campus in Ward No. 4 in the south.

In Dhanusha, Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Luintel enforced an indefinite curfew from 3:30 pm today under Section 6 of the same Act, after a District Security Committee meeting convened to address the sensitive security situation. The restricted area spans from Lakshminiya Haatbazar Chowk in the north to Siurjoda Chowk in the west, Laxmipur Nawa through 500 metres east of MU Steel on Belouni Road to the National Primary School in the east, and from the Nagarain Municipality area to Nagarain Chowk in the south. The designated boundary also encompasses Siurjoda, Sohni, Manimandap, Nepal Nursery, ISKCON, Janakpur, Dhalkebar Bridge, Bela and Kadari Mosque in the west.

Under the directives, members of the public are strictly prohibited from moving about, gathering, holding processions, demonstrations, meetings or sit‑ins within the designated locations. Both administration offices warned that anyone who breaches the curfew will face action in accordance with existing law.

Security agencies in the affected areas have been placed on high alert, with surveillance intensified across key locations. The local administrations have appealed to residents to cooperate in maintaining peace and security by complying fully with the orders and remaining indoors except for essential tasks.
