FNCCI urges local chambers to maintain social harmony in Tarai
KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has urged its provincial federations and local chambers to help maintain social harmony after unrest and rising tensions in parts of the Terai, including Kaptanganj in Sunsari district.
The business body called on all concerned parties to exercise restraint and asked its subordinate bodies to work with local administrations, political parties, civil society groups, religious leaders and community figures to safeguard security, peace and neighbourliness.
The organisation said that, subject to approval by local administrations, provincial federations and local chambers may organise harmony rallies where necessary to help restore a calm atmosphere.
Emphasising the importance of peaceful dialogue, FNCCI Acting President Sur Krishna Vaidya asked affiliated members to lead efforts in their areas to maintain social order. “The resolution of any kind of disagreement or misunderstanding is possible only through peaceful dialogue and mutual understanding,” Vaidya said.
The Federation expressed deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the incidents and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Recalling Nepal’s tradition of multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious and multi-cultural unity, FNCCI warned that unrest, clashes and violence under any pretext severely disrupt daily life, industry, business and national economic activity, and stressed that peace and social harmony are essential prerequisites for economic development and prosperity.
