Government working to ensure citizens' safety and social harmony: PM Shah
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah said the government is working continuously and systematically to ensure the safety of citizens and their property and to strengthen social harmony amid sensitive situations in districts including Sunsari.
Speaking at a meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar with MPs of the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) from Tarai‑Madhesh districts, Shah urged people not to be alarmed and to remain calm.
He said all organs of the state mechanism have been deployed on high alert and that the government’s primary focus is to reach affected citizens, ensure their safety and carry out a fair investigation into the incidents.
Shah said a multi‑pronged strategy has been adopted to maintain peace and security and to prevent the situation from worsening, and that movement at border points has been tightened.
The prime minister asked MPs to visit their constituencies and act as a bridge between the state and the public to promote broader social harmony, saying that in difficult and emergency situations visiting people at their homes and standing with them is the true responsibility of MPs.
MPs at the meeting responded positively and pledged to return to their constituencies immediately, saying the prime minister’s address to the nation on Thursday sent a positive message and helped restore trust and confidence, particularly in affected areas.
The MPs urged continued intensive dialogue with leaders on both sides, civil society, intellectuals and local political representatives to secure long‑term peace and brotherhood, and stressed the need to keep sending positive and unifying messages to maintain religious and social harmony in tense areas.
