KATHMANDU: The government has issued the National Transport Policy, 2083, replacing provisions that had remained unchanged for nearly 25 years.
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MoID) said the policy aims to ensure a sustainable, accessible, safe, green and technology‑friendly transport system through the development of an integrated transport network.
The ministry added the policy prioritises the development of a modern and efficient transport system by maintaining a balance among different modes of transport, including road, rail, waterways and aviation.
Minister for Infrastructure Development, Sunil Lamsal, said the policy emphasises improving the quality of public transport, enhancing road safety, promoting the use of environment‑friendly technology and expanding digital systems.
Officials said the revision was carried out in line with the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and to address changing technological dynamics, urbanisation and climate change.
