KATHMANDU: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav has urged industrialists and businesspeople to obtain the Nepal Standard (NS) Mark for their products to promote domestic goods, ensure quality and reduce reliance on imports.

Speaking at a meeting with officials from the Department of Standards and Metrology, Ms Yadav said the NS Mark is essential for developing quality domestic products and expanding markets. She called for the scope of the NS Mark to be widened to cover more items.

The minister said the NS Mark helps Nepali products reach international markets and increases consumer confidence. She added the government will provide incentives to businesses and simplify the process of obtaining the mark.

Several industrial products made in Nepal, including cement, rods and tyres, have already been awarded the NS Mark. More recently, sanitary pads produced in Nepal have received the certification.

The ministry has urged industries and companies to complete the necessary procedures promptly to secure the NS Mark and ensure the supply of quality products.
