NOC says there is no shortage of LPG

KATHMANDU: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has said there is no shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the market and urged consumers to buy only what they need and not to stockpile.

In a press release on Tuesday, the NOC said complaints about cooking gas shortages emerged after the sale of 14.2 kg cylinders resumed. Retailers have been asked to record buyers’ names, addresses and contact numbers, to give priority to household consumers, and to prioritise senior citizens, people with disability and chronically ill patients.

To meet high demand in the Kathmandu Valley, the NOC has arranged sales and distribution of 14.2 kg LPG cylinders from its Teku office from Saturday between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. Consumers facing problems obtaining cooking gas are asked to contact the NOC hotline on 01-5971902 during office hours.

NOC, the state-owned trading enterprise responsible for the import, storage and distribution of petroleum products, said a total of 31,861 metric tonnes of LPG had been imported from July 17 to August 3 and that supply during this period was adequate. It urged consumers not to purchase and store more gas than necessary.

Consumers outside the Kathmandu Valley have been asked to contact liaison officers at provincial offices, branch offices and depots for complaints or information about LPG.
