Industry ministry says LPG supply will return to normal within days

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies (MoICS) has said the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will be normal within a few days.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry urged consumers not to hoard cooking gas based on rumours and false information, and asked them to buy LPG only according to their needs.

MoICS spokesperson Netra Prasad Subedi said imports and distribution of LPG are currently higher than regular demand and exceed levels for the same period last year.

The Ministry said it is working with stakeholders to ensure an effective supply and distribution system to balance rising demand and supply of cooking gas. Reform measures have been launched in coordination with the Nepal Oil Corporation and LPG companies to improve transparency and predictability in the import, storage and distribution of cooking gas.

The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has stepped up market monitoring.

The MoICS warned it will take stern action against individuals and firms found to be creating an artificial shortage or engaging in black marketeering in the supply and distribution of LPG.
