NLPGA urges consumers not to hoard LPG cylinders

KATHMANDU: Nepal LP Gas Association (NLPGA) has urged consumers not to hoard LPG cylinders as imports have been increased and supplies remain secure.

A statement from NLPGA President Diwan Bahadur Chand said LPG is being imported from India without obstruction and cylinders are being refilled at Indian refineries. "If consumers don't purchase surplus LPG the current shortage will be resolved immediately. There is no possibility of gas shortage as there will be no problem in gas supply in the coming days," the statement said.

Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has increased LPG imports from various Indian refineries by about 15%. NOC reported that 39,774 metric tonnes of LPG were imported in the past 22 days and estimates around 55,000 metric tonnes will be imported during the month of Shrawan.

By comparison, 44,318 metric tonnes were imported in the same period last fiscal year.

Retailers and sellers have been instructed to prioritise household users when selling and distributing gas.
