FMTC to open 193 fair-price stores across 44 districts

KATHMANDU: Food Management and Trading Company (FMTC) is opening fair-price stores nationwide from Thursday to mark its seventh anniversary, offering discounted essentials to improve consumer access.

FMTC Spokesperson Madhav Mishra said the budget-friendly stores will operate in 193 locations across 44 districts. Shoppers will receive a discount of Rs 5 per kilogram or litre on daily essentials.

The sales counters form part of the anniversary activities and aim to increase public access to the company’s products. A sales counter will also open at Singha Durbar in Kathmandu.

Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Gauri Kumari, is scheduled to inaugurate the Singha Durbar store on Thursday.

Mishra said consumers will be able to obtain all the company’s products at affordable rates through the Singha Durbar counter. The company sells rice, lentils, cooking oil, sugar and salt, as well as local grains including wheat, barley, buckwheat and millet.
