Mining revenue falls by about Rs 700m in FY2025/26

KATHMANDU: Revenue from mining and mineral production and exports fell by about Rs 700 million in fiscal year 2025/26, the Department of Mines and Geology has reported.

The Department collected Rs 894.8 million in fiscal year 2025/26, down from Rs 1.59 billion in fiscal year 2024/25, a decline of roughly 44% compared with the previous fiscal year.

Department Spokesperson and Deputy Director General Ganesh Nath Tripathi said: "The Department raises revenue through a range of services, including issuing licences for mineral exploration and extraction, and processing licence renewals."

He added that the Department grants permission to mine mineral products such as limestone, metals, and stone to support industrial production and economic development in the country.

The Department has also authorised the extraction of minerals including tourmaline, talc, quartz, marble, iron, zinc, magnetite, dolomite and copper with the aim of developing mineral industries through the use of domestic resources.
