KATHMANDU: Heavy rainfall has caused widespread traffic disruption across several districts, police said.

Traffic was affected in Kavrepalanchok, Ilam, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Rukum West, Sankhuwasabha, Lamjung, Mustang, Rolpa and Chitwan, according to police reports.

To reduce flood risk, vehicular movement on Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi section of Kavrepalanchok-Sindhuli BP Highway is being restricted daily from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am, with traffic allowed only during daylight hours.

Major highways have been severely affected. The Mechi Highway in Ilam is completely blocked by mud, while landslides have disrupted Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok and Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubesi road in Rasuwa. Landslides have also caused blockages on Jajarkot-Dolpa road in Rukum West and Besisahar-Manang road in Lamjung. The Beni-Jomsom road in Mustang and a section of the Prithvi Highway in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-5 in Chitwan have been closed entirely due to landslides.

Police have urged travellers to keep updated on road conditions and to take necessary precautions given the ongoing risks of landslides and flooding.
