KATHMANDU: Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer Montra Electric has entered its first international market by launching the Super Auto electric three-wheeler in Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party Member of Parliament Aashish Gajurel officially unveiled the first batch of passenger three-wheelers on August 11, marking the brand's debut through its exclusive national distributor, HIPCO Trading.

Montra Electric has priced the Super Auto at Rs 864,900 in Nepal. HIPCO Trading will manage sales, distribution, spare parts, and customer service through an expanding regional dealer network across the country.

Engineered to navigate Nepal's steep mountain roads and local terrain using insights from local road testing, the Super Auto offers 32% gradeability alongside Hill-Hold Assist. Powered by a 9 kWh battery pack paired with a PMSM electric motor, the vehicle generates 60 Nm of torque, reaches a top speed of 55 km/h, and provides a driving range of 150 km on a single charge. A full charge takes 4.5 hours. The three-wheeler also features a digital instrument cluster and multiple driving modes for smoother acceleration without manual gear changes.

For fleet operators and drivers, the transition provides lower operating expenses, reduced maintenance requirements, and protection against fuel price volatility. Nepal's surplus hydroelectric power generation enables electric mobility to substitute imported petroleum fuels, supported by government duty preferences for electric vehicles over internal combustion engine models. The vehicle also incorporates a premium exterior design, dual-tone ergonomic seating, extra headroom and legroom, and an all-weather windscreen and roof structure.

Himanshu Golchha, Director at HIPCO Trading, stated, "Nepal’s roads are the backbone of country’s economic growth. For too long growth has come at the cost of our fuel bill. The arrival of Super Auto is a welcome step toward last-mile transport that does not depend on imported fuel and does not add to the pollution. As we continue to encourage electric mobility across the nation, partnerships like this one help our transport sector move in step with aspirations of Nepal's people."

Arun Murugappan, Chairman of Montra Electric (TI Clean Mobility), stated, "Montra Electric's entry into Nepal with the Super Auto reflects the Group's long-standing belief that engineering excellence must serve real, on-ground needs, whether it is a farmer, a fleet operator, or a nation's own energy ambitions. Our range is built to serve every stretch of that journey, from first-mile to last-mile mobility. Nepal's renewable energy strength and Montra Electric's mobility innovation make this a natural, mutually reinforcing partnership, and one we see as a template for how Indian engineering can support sustainable growth across our neighbouring economies."

Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director of Montra Electric (TI Clean Mobility), noted, "Our entry into Nepal is a defining chapter in Montra Electric’s journey as we transition from a leading player in India’s rapidly growing electric commercial vehicle sector to a global force in sustainable mobility. At the Murugappa Group, we have always prioritised engineering that solves real-world challenges; by leveraging Nepal’s surplus electricity to fuel our foray, we are demonstrating how Indian innovation can empower other economies to decouple their growth from global fuel volatility and embrace a cleaner, self-reliant future."

Siddartha Jajodia, Director at HIPCO Trading, added, "The high-performance Super Auto passenger vehicle in Nepal marks the beginning of the company's ambitious global roadmap by providing nationwide sales, service, spare parts, and customer support through its expanding dealer and service network across Nepal. The launch marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between Montra Electric and HIPCO Trading, with plans to expand the product portfolio and strengthen Nepal’s electric mobility ecosystem."

HIPCO Trading is a subsidiary of the Diwakar Golchha Organisation, established in Nepal in 1930. Montra Electric is part of India's 125-year-old Murugappa Group.
