PALPA: A landslide has completely blocked the Siddhartha Highway in Palpa, halting all traffic on the key route linking the hills and the Tarai.

The landslide occurred about 100 metres north of the Siddhababa tunnel entry on the Palpa–Butwal section, at Tinau Rural Municipality-3, police said. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bhim Lal Bhattarai reported the incident took place at 7:00 am on Wednesday.

Clearing teams were attempting to remove debris and reopen the road, but further slips have continued, hampering recovery work. Vehicles travelling to and from hilly districts have been stranded as a result.

The highway is the main route for services to Palpa, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Syangja, Kaski, Parbat, Myagdi, Mustang and Baglung. The Police Administration has urged people to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas and asked passengers and drivers to remain in safe locations until traffic is restored.
