'Rock avalanche along Nepal-China border triggered flash flood in Bhotekoshi River'

KATHMANDU: A preliminary assessment by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) indicates that a rock avalanche along the Nepal-China border in Rasuwa triggered the flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River.

NDRRMA Executive Chief Dr Dharmaraj Upreti said the rock avalanche occurred approximately 20 kilometres northeast of Rasuwagadhi border, causing a sudden surge of mud and debris into Bhotekoshi River. The floodwaters subsequently flowed through Timure before merging with Trishuli River.

"Preliminary findings were based on assessments of available satellite images," he said.

Satellite imagery indicates that a large mass of rocks and debris descended along the Nepal‑China border, causing the sudden flood in the river.
