Remittance inflows to Nepal surge 37.1 pc to over Rs 2,363bn in FY 2025/26: NRB

KATHMANDU: Remittance inflows to Nepal surged by 37.1% to Rs 2,363.13 billion in Fiscal Year 2025/26, expanding from a 19.2% growth recorded in the previous year, according to macroeconomic data released by Nepal Rastra Bank on Thursday.

In US dollar terms, remittance inflows increased by 28.1% to $16.19 billion in the review year, compared to a growth of 16.3% in the preceding year. During the final month of the fiscal year, between mid-June and mid-July, remittance inflows stand at Rs 242.33 billion, up from Rs 189.11 billion recorded in the same period of the previous year.

Net secondary income, representing net transfers, reaches Rs 2,581.53 billion in the review year, compared to Rs 1,874.30 billion in the previous year.

Regarding foreign employment, the data indicate changes in labour migration patterns for Nepali workers. The number of workers taking first-time approval for foreign employment through institutional and individual channels stands at 406,519 in FY 2025/26, down from 505,957 in the previous year. In contrast, the number of workers receiving approval for entry renewal increases to 385,783 during the fiscal year, up from 333,309 recorded in the previous year.
