Nepal records current account surplus of Rs 923.56bn, BOP surplus of Rs 1,027.04bn: NRB

KATHMANDU: Nepal recorded a current account surplus of Rs 923.56 billion in Fiscal Year 2025/26, expanding from a surplus of Rs 409.84 billion in the previous year, according to annual macroeconomic data released by Nepal Rastra Bank on Thursday. In US dollar terms, the current account registered a surplus of $6.33 billion in the review year, compared to a surplus of $3.01 billion in the preceding year.

The country's Balance of Payments (BOP), also recorded a widened surplus of Rs 1,027.04 billion during FY 2025/26, up from a surplus of Rs 594.54 billion in the previous year. In US dollar terms, the BOP surplus reached $7.05 billion in the review year, compared to a surplus of $4.37 billion recorded a year earlier.

Regarding transfers and investments, net capital transfer increased to Rs 18.50 billion in the review year from Rs 9.84 billion in the previous year. Furthermore, foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow, equity only, grew to Rs 28.49 billion in FY 2025/26, up from Rs 12.02 billion received in the previous fiscal year.
