Nepal government expenditure reaches Rs 1582.17bn in FY 2025/26, NRB data shows

KATHMANDU: Total expenditure of the government stood at Rs 1,582.17 billion during the Fiscal Year 2025/26, according to annual macroeconomic data released by Nepal Rastra Bank on Thursday, based on records from the Financial Comptroller General's Office under the Ministry of Finance.

Of total government spending, recurrent expenditure accounted for Rs 1,043.99 billion during the review period. Financial expenditure amounted to Rs 347.33 billion, while capital expenditure stood at Rs 190.84 billion.

On the revenue side, total revenue mobilisation of the Government of Nepal, including amounts to be transferred to provincial and local governments, reached Rs 1,241.32 billion in FY 2025/26. Of the total revenue, tax revenue generated Rs 1,121.08 billion, while non‑tax revenue contributed Rs 120.24 billion during the review period.

During FY 2025/26, total expenditure of provincial governments stood at Rs 183.97 billion and total resource mobilisation stood at Rs 216.23 billion. Specifically, resource mobilisation from grants and revenue transferred from the federal government amounted to Rs 159.42 billion, and provinces' own‑source revenue and other receipts amounted to Rs 55.26 billion.
