903 dead, approximately 4,347 missing, 267 injured after flash flooding in Rasuwa: NDRRMA

KATHMANDU: National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) confirmed that 903 people have died following the flash flooding in Rasuwa on Wednesday, August 26. According to NDRRMA, approximately 4,347 individuals remain missing, and 267 people have been injured.

The affected districts include Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Nawalpur, Parasi, Tanahun and Chitwan.

NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said that 20,899 security personnel, including Nepal Police, the Nepali Army and the Armed Police Force, Nepal (APF Nepal), are being deployed for search and rescue operations across the affected areas. Spokesperson Mahat stated that 10,459 people trapped in the floods and landslides have been rescued so far.

The NDRRMA reported that the Nepali Army has rescued 3,344 Nepali citizens and 252 foreign nationals by helicopter, completing 411 rescue sorties to date.

Meanwhile, the government has provided cash relief of Rs 10 million each to Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, and Rs 5 million to Dhading. A total of Rs 67.5 million has also been made available to 15 affected municipalities.

According to NDRRMA, the delivery of food, non-food items, medicine and health supplies to the affected regions is ongoing.
