NCC hands over relief to government for Bhotekoshi flood victims
KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) handed over relief materials to the Government of Nepal on Sunday for citizens affected by the severe flood in the Bhotekoshi River.
NCC representatives, led by Deepak Kumar Malhotra, senior vice president and chairman of the Disaster Management Council, delivered the consignment to the Nepal Police Disaster Response and Training Centre in Samakhusi and handed it to the District Administration Office, Kathmandu; the shipment included items collected by the Nepal Youth Chamber.
The consignment comprised ready-made shirts, beaten rice, various types of biscuits, sanitary pads, toothpaste, toothbrushes, gloves, masks, T-shirts, lentils and other essentials.
An inventory listed 34 sacks of beaten rice and additional beaten rice in various quantities, 80 cartons of millet biscuits, 83 cartons of corn-honey biscuits, 87 cartons of choc-chip biscuits, 10 cartons of sanitary pads, seven cartons of packed salt, one carton of toothpaste, two cartons of toothbrushes, three cartons of gloves and masks, two sacks (250 pieces) of other T-shirts, one sack (73 pieces) of T‑shirts bearing 'Arcs Food', and one small sack (10 kg) of lentils.
In a parallel effort, NCC and Leo District Council 325 G, Nepal, worked together to supply drinking water, noodles, biscuits, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, nappies, mattresses, medicines, sanitary pads, rice, clothes, gloves and other relief items to flood-affected communities.
NCC executive committee members Krishna Man Shrestha, Roshan Bhoyadyo and Rujul Shrestha were among those present at the relief handover programme.
The Bhotekoshi flood caused extensive loss of life and property in districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading on August 26. Following the disaster, NCC has assisted with rescue and security management as well as relief collection and distribution. Earlier, NCC handed over 17 drones to the Nepal Police and two drones together with 125 power banks to Bidur Municipality; it also provided cash assistance to the district chambers of the affected districts and has arranged to order 500 solar power banks from India.
NCC said it has been collaborating with the government in rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations while fulfilling the corporate social responsibility of the private sector during times of disaster, and that relief collected from members and businesses will continue to provide immediate food, clothing and health-related materials to those affected.
