PATA expresses sympathy, pledges support for Nepal's tourism after devastating floods

KATHMANDU: Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has expressed sympathy and solidarity with its members, partners and local communities in Nepal and pledged support for the country’s tourism sector after severe floods and landslides.

The disaster has caused deaths, displaced families and damaged livelihoods, affecting residents and hundreds of international visitors in the country.

Noor Ahmad Hamid, Chief Executive Officer of PATA, said in a statement to colleagues that the association’s thoughts are with those hit hardest. "On behalf of the Pacific Asia Travel Association, I would like to express our deepest sympathy and solidarity with our members, partners and friends across Nepal following the devastating floods and landslides that have affected communities across the country."

Hamid paid tribute to those involved in relief operations and highlighted the human cost. "We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and the impact this disaster has had on families, communities and livelihoods. Our thoughts are especially with those who have lost loved ones, those who remain missing or displaced, and everyone working tirelessly to support the response and recovery efforts," he said.

The association acknowledged the leadership of the Government of Nepal and the efforts of the local population in responding to the crisis and leading recovery operations under severe conditions.

PATA confirmed its commitment to supporting the country’s tourism sector. As recovery progresses, the association plans to work alongside the PATA Nepal Chapter and industry partners, using its network, knowledge and resources to contribute to the sector’s recovery and resilience.

Hamid urged the international travel community to offer assistance when appropriate. "We also hope that, when the time is right, the international tourism community can come together to support Nepal’s recovery and help restore confidence in the destination. PATA will continue to stand alongside our members and partners in this effort."
