Ncell extends free telecom services in flood-hit Rasuwa for seven days
KATHMANDU: Ncell announced on Friday that it had extended free voice, data and text-messaging services for flood-affected communities in Rasuwa for a further seven days, from September 5 to 11.
The extension is intended to maintain communications in communities affected by the Bhotekoshi River floods and support ongoing rescue and relief operations.
The telecommunications company has restored 92% of the network sites damaged by the flooding. Of the 27 affected sites, 25 are now operational, with the latest restoration completed on Thursday in Trishuli, Nuwakot. A facility in Ghatte Khola, Timure, was entirely destroyed by the floodwaters.
Ncell initially provided free connectivity for three days after the disaster on August 26 and subsequently extended the service until September 4.
“Ensuring uninterrupted communication during this difficult time is important, which is why we have decided to extend the free services in the affected areas for another seven days,” Upanga Dutta, chief consumer business officer at Ncell, said.
“With 92% of the affected sites already restored, we believe these free services will greatly help affected communities stay connected with their families and loved ones, while also enabling teams involved in rescue and relief efforts to coordinate effectively.”
Ncell is arranging helicopter transport to deliver equipment needed to repair the offline site in Tiru, Uttargaya.
Alongside its network restoration work and safety awareness campaigns, the Ncell Foundation donated Rs 10 million to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund shortly after the floods to support wider rehabilitation efforts.
