Nepali Congress donates Rs 10m to disaster relief fund for flood victims

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has contributed Rs 10 million to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund to support relief and rehabilitation efforts for people affected by the Bhotekoshi floods.

A delegation led by NC General Secretary Pradip Paudel handed over a cheque for the amount to Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle on Monday.

The delegation included party Treasurer Umesh Shrestha, spokesperson Devraj Chalise, House of Representatives member from Rasuwa Mohan Acharya and other party leaders.

The devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers on August 26 caused significant loss of life and property in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts. Many households were displaced, and physical infrastructure sustained extensive damage.

Speaking on the occasion, Paudel said the party had provided financial assistance to help affected families with relief, medical treatment and safe accommodation during the disaster.

He said the Nepali Congress stood with flood-affected citizens during the crisis and urged the government to speed up rescue efforts for people stranded in various locations, including tunnels, as a result of the floods.

Paudel also called on the government to expedite rescue operations in areas surrounding the Trishuli and Bhotekoshi rivers, accelerate reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, ensure transparency in relief distribution and make overall disaster management more effective.

He expressed the party’s commitment to extending all necessary support to the government in disaster management, the search for missing persons and the sustainable rehabilitation of displaced communities.
