Flydubai to begin regular Dubai-Pokhara flights

POKHARA: Flydubai, an Emirati government-owned airline based in Dubai, is commencing regular flights on the Dubai-Pokhara-Dubai route from Pokhara International Airport as of today.

According to Airport General Manager Jagannath Niroula, the Flydubai aircraft is scheduled to arrive in Pokhara at 6.15 pm and depart for Dubai at 7.15 pm. The arriving aircraft will be greeted with a traditional water-cannon salute.

General Manager Niroula said all requisite preparations and infrastructure for international operations are complete, encompassing immigration, customs, cargo and passenger services. Meanwhile, officials noted that the District Security Committee has inspected the premises and established the necessary security arrangements to facilitate the international flights.

Pom Narayan Shrestha, former Chairperson of the Pokhara Tourism Council, expressed confidence that this regular service could strengthen the international connectivity of Pokhara, noting that Dubai is a major global transit hub and Flydubai serves over 120 destinations. The route is also anticipated to make travel significantly more convenient for Nepali workers and students heading to Dubai.

The introduction of this regular service has brought fresh optimism to tourism entrepreneurs, businesspeople and local residents who have long awaited sustained international connectivity from the regional airport. In celebration of the regular service, tourism and business representatives in Pokhara are preparing to welcome arrivals and bid farewell to departing travellers with ceremonial stoles and garlands.

While Pokhara International Airport officially opened on January 1, 2023, regular international routes had not been established until now. Although some airlines provided international services in the past, those flights were not maintained on a regular basis.
