vivo introduces OriginOS 7 with Origin Workbench and Jovi AI
KATHMANDU: vivo has introduced OriginOS 7, its latest operating system designed to deliver a smoother, smarter and more personalised smartphone experience. A Preview Programme began on September 21 for the vivo X300 Pro and select iQOO devices in India, Thailand and Malaysia.
OriginOS 7 centres on performance and long-term responsiveness. The next-generation Origin Smooth Engine features a redesigned architecture for graphics processing, memory management and system scheduling.
Ultra-Core Computing dynamically allocates processing resources to maintain responsiveness during demanding activities such as gaming and multitasking; vivo says this reduces application cold-start time by 10% and improves application page switching by 11%. Memory Fusion improves memory management and reclamation, offering up to 25 gigabytes of additional storage on a 256-gigabyte device, while Dual Rendering increases rendering efficiency by 14.4%, enabling richer visuals and smoother system animations.
At the heart of the update is Origin Workbench, which enables users to manage up to five active applications within a unified workspace and carry out tasks such as exporting high-resolution videos while referencing notes, browsing content and communicating in real time.
The update also introduces Jovi, a cross-device personal agent that manages workflows between mobile and desktop environments. Deeply integrated with the vivo Office Kit, Jovi can retrieve a file from a connected computer on command, summarise key information and send the results to a smartphone. Jovi can also handle scheduled tasks such as compiling weekly reports or organising files automatically. Snap Note converts photos of whiteboards, handwritten notes and presentation slides into editable, formatted documents, and Jovi Security records autonomous actions and requires user authorisation for key steps.
OriginOS 7 is designed to work with devices users already own. An Apple Watch can display notifications and synchronise workout and health data with the Origin Health application, whilst AirPods offer instant connectivity, battery information through Origin Island and Spatial Audio support. Through the vivo Office Kit, users can connect iPad, Mac and Windows devices to hand off tasks, synchronise notes in real time and transfer files between screens, and files and photos stored in iCloud can be accessed directly through the vivo File Manager.
Interaction and visual design receive a major update. Origin Animation applies natural physics to swipes, taps and transitions: Fluid Motion lets interface elements stretch, bounce and respond dynamically to finger movement, whilst Spring Animation delivers consistent, physics-based motion across the system. Seamless Interaction, StickIt and the Wiggle, Glint and Pet Pals themes extend tactile and dynamic expression to the lock screen, home screen and Always-On Display.
To validate long-term performance, vivo conducted a 72-month anti-ageing test intended to confirm the system’s ability to remain smooth after six years of daily use. The Preview Programme will subsequently expand to the X500 series and the new X Fold and V series; feature availability may vary across markets and regions.
